The Labradorian of Distinction Award, established in 2017 during Canada’s 150th anniversary, is one of Labrador’s highest honours. It was created to recognize individuals whose lives and work have made lasting contributions to both Labrador and Canada, ensuring that the region’s people, leadership, and stories are properly reflected in the nation’s history. The award highlights those whose impact may not always have been widely visible, but has been deeply meaningful and enduring.

The award celebrates Labradorians from all walks of life, including Indigenous leaders, public servants, artists, educators, business figures, and community advocates. It is intentionally inclusive, recognizing both living recipients and those honoured posthumously. At its core, the award is about legacy—honouring values such as resilience, service, leadership, and a strong connection to land and community, which together define the spirit of Labrador.
